The best and most traded avocados globally, are Hass and Fuerte, and the best quality of these varieties grow in Kenyan highlands in tea growing areas.
We have now formerly partnered with Kenya Tea Development Agency (KTDA) and we have launched Avocado Diversification Program for Tea Farmers (ADPTF). This program seeks to address the following areas:
i. Our partnership is to encourage and empower tea farmers.
ii. Increase source of income for the tea farmers
iii. Enhance sustainability
iv. Conserve environment and improve forest cover in the Kenyan highlands
v. Attract and store rainfall which is critical for farming and increase biodiversity
vi. Avocado have enormous nutritional benefits and they will supplement family diet in tea growing areas.
In our partnership, we undertake as follows:
i. We avail quality avocado seedlings to farmers at subsidized price
ii. We undertake farmer education to educate tea farmers on avocado growing
iii. We avail agronomic support to farmers
iv. We are the official off taker and avail steady market for the avocados and pay farmer in a timely fashion and in the prevailing market rate.
v. We help in farmer certification activities
Under this partnership, we are working with over 650,000 small scale farmers which is the largest small scale farmers organization in the world. This gives us guaranteed source and steady supply of quality fruits for our export to overseas clients and oil production and enhance traceability.

Under this program, current supplies stand at about 100 tons per week. However, as a result of the ongoing seedling propagation activities, in 3 years’ time, the supply shall increase to not less than 1000 tons.
Our long-term view is to enable an average farmer to have 10 trees, this would mean, we shall have over 5m tons of avocados annually to off-take. To ensure we create commensurate off-take capabilities, our strategy is as follows:
i. Enhance and increase our export quantities - by exploring new market frontiers such as China, Asia and the USA, in additional to the existing European and Middle East market.
ii. Supply to other exporters
iii. Supply to avocado oil production companies
iv. Increase our own avocado oil production capacity
v. Develop local market distribution system
